The Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (AMEX:VDC) is seeing unusually high volume in afternoon trading Friday, with over 110,000 shares traded versus three month average volume of about 68,000. Shares of VDC were up about 0.1% on the day.
Components of that ETF with the highest volume on Friday were Coca Cola (NYSE:KO), trading trading flat with over 3.5 million shares changing hands so far this session, and Mondelez International (NASDAQ:MDLZ), trading flat on volume of over 2.7 million shares. Flowers Foods (NYSE:FLO) is the component faring the best Friday, higher by about 9.7% on the day, while Smucker JM (NYSE:SJM) is lagging other components of the Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF, trading lower by about 4%.
