The Valspar Corporation (VAL) announced that it earned $73.8 million, or 79 cents per shares in the fourth quarter, versus a loss of $295.7 million, or $3.18 per share, in the same period last year. Revenue was down by 2.2% to $1.02 billion, below estimates of $1.08 billion. For fiscal 2012, earnings were $3.28 per share, meeting estimates. Revenue increased by 2% to $4.02 billion.
The company has spent the last several years building its brand at home improvement retailer Lowe's (NYSE:LOW), which accounts for a significant portion of its sales.
