As the saying goes, there are many possible reasons for an insider to sell a stock, but only one reason to buy -- they expect to make money. So let's look at two noteworthy recent insider buys.
On Thursday, DATAWATCH Corp. (NASDAQ:DWCH)'s Director, David Mahoney, made a $143,539 buy of DWCH, purchasing 10,000 shares at a cost of $14.35 a piece. DATAWATCH Corp. is trading down about 2% on the day Tuesday. Before this latest buy, Mahoney purchased DWCH on 4 other occasions during the past year, for a total cost of $150,921 at an average of $10.03 per share.
And also on Thursday, Director J. Casey Crenshaw bought $140,000 worth of American Electric Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:AETI), buying 35,000 shares at a cost of $4.00 each. This purchase marks the first one filed by Crenshaw in the past twelve months. American Electric Technologies, Inc. is trading off about 2.8% on the day Tuesday. Crenshaw was up about 17.5% on the purchase at the high point of today's trading session, with AETI trading as high as $4.70 in trading on Tuesday.
