As the saying goes, there are many possible reasons for an insider to sell a stock, but only one reason to buy -- they expect to make money. So let's look at two noteworthy recent insider buys.
At ValueVision Media Inc. (NASDAQ:VVTV), a filing with the SEC revealed that on Wednesday, Director Joseph F. Berardino bought 10,000 shares of VVTV, at a cost of $2.14 each, for a total investment of $21,449. Berardino was up about 6.3% on the purchase at the high point of today's trading session, with VVTV trading as high as $2.28 at last check today. ValueVision Media Inc. is trading up about 1.4% on the day Friday. Before this latest buy, Berardino made one other buy in the past twelve months, purchasing $18,500 shares for a cost of $1.85 each.
And on Tuesday, Director Kevin L. Riley purchased $3,631 worth of Hawthorn Bancshares, Inc. (NASDAQ:HWBK), purchasing 462 shares at a cost of $7.86 a piece. Before this latest buy, Riley made one other buy in the past twelve months, purchasing $7,920 shares at a cost of $9.00 each. Hawthorn Bancshares, Inc. is trading off about 2.7% on the day Friday.
