Same Store Sales Increase; Employers Increase Payrolls Thursday, January 3, 3:41 PM ET
Across 17 retailers, December sales at stores open at least a year increased by 4.5 percent, beating estimates for 3.3 percent growth. The result beast last month's number of 1.6 percent growth in November 2012. In December 2011, sales grew by 4.2 percent increase in December 2011.
In addition, private-sector employers stepped up hiring in December, offering further evidence of underlying strength in the economy. The ADP National Employment Report showed the private sector added 215,000 jobs last month, after increasing their payrolls by 148,000 in November.
