Unemployment Rate Increases; Auto Sales Increase Friday, February 1, 4:46 PM ET
The Labor Department announced that American employers added 157,000 jobs in January, and the unemployment rate increased slightly to 7.9 percent. The report was in line with analyst expectations. Revisions to November data were positive, with the number moving from 161,000 to 247,000.
Also on Friday, automakers said new-vehicle sales in the United States rose sharply in January, boding well for a recovery of the industry in 2013.
