Ann (NYSE:ANN) announced that it earned $2.4 million, or 5 cents per share, up 9 percent from $2.2 million, or 4 cents per share, in the same period last year. Revenue increased by six percent to $607.7 million from $566.7 million. Sales at Ann Taylor brand stores increased by 7 percent to $255 million and sales at Loft brand stores increased by 7 percent to $352.7 million.
Analysts expected a profit of 1 cent per share on $608 million in revenue.
Shares are higher by about 7.6 percent.
H&R Block (NYSE:HRB) announced that it lost 6 cents per share, wider than the one cent per share in the same period last year. Revenue was $472 million, down 29% year over year, largely atributable to timing issues from the IRS opening its e-file system on January 30.
