The Commerce Department announced that construction spending fell BY 2.1% in January versus December, the largest one-month decline since July of 2011. Residential construction was flat. Non-residential building fell by 5.1% and public construction dropped by 1%. For 2012, construction spending was $855.4 billion, a 9.9% increase from 2011 and the first increase after five years of decline.
