Investors are anticipating that the Fed will maintain its bond-buying policy because of new fears in Europe over the Cyprus crisis. That sentiment sent stocks up today ahead of the Fed announcement at 2 pm today.
Just before the 2pm hour, the S&P was up .54%, the Nasdaq was up .57% and the Dow was up .33%. Among gainers on the Dow, Merck (NYSE:MRK), Coca Cola (NYSE:KO) and Bank of America (NYSE:BAC).
Meanwhile, in Cyprus, leaders are looking to Russia for a loan deal in an effort to solve their economic crisis.
