Stocks struggled to find direction on this choppy day of trading as the two sides are no closer to reaching a deal to avoid automatic budget cuts.
Shares of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) tumbled today after facing a blow last week in its legal battle with Samsung. Apple's $1.05 billion jury verdict against Samsung was reduced 43 percent by a federal judge.
While shares are Apple have fallen, Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) hit a 52-week high of $814.47 in early trading today.
Also among tech stocks, Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO) also hit new highs after an upgrade from Barclays. The internet company also announced it will discontinue seven of its products.
