Retail Sales Increase Wednesday, March 13, 4:45 PM ET
Retail sales increased by 1.1 percent in February following a revised 0.2 percent gain in January, beating estimates for a 0.5 percent increase. Core sales increased by 0.4 percent. The gain in retail sales was surprising and a sign of a healthy economy given the end of the the percent payroll tax cut, as well as a tax rate increase for wealthy Americans on January 1.
