Stocks finished in positive territory as weaker than expected retail sales raised hopes the Fed may delay tapering its market-boosting policies. The Dow and S&P 500 finished up around .13% and the Nasdaq closed up just over .20%.
In other economic news today business inventories were up just slightly in May, while New York's manufacturing index grew solidly last month and better than economists' forecast.
Among winners today - Citigroup (NYSE:C) shares jumped 2% after posting better than expected 2Q results. Boeing (NYSE:BA) was also sharply higher after dropping last week on troubles with its 787 Dreamliner. And shares of Leap Wireless (LEAP) more than doubled after AT&T agreed to acquire the cell carrier.
Tomorrow, investors will be looking at the Consumer Price Index and the Housing Market Index.
