The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 are currently trading in positive territory this afternoon following a string of strong earnings reports issued this morning. Pushing the Dow higher today was a favorable report by United Technologies (UTX) which saw earnings surpass expectations and the company raise the low end of its full year forecast. Also helping the Dow was news out of DuPont (NYSE:DD) which confirmed the company would be exploring strategic alternatives for certain chemical units.
The Nasdaq remained in negative territory this afternoon as investors are looking ahead to Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) second quarter earnings announcement. The stock has been on the decline since hitting its peak in September 2012 and recent reports have suggested that the smartphone market may be saturated. Heading into the close, shares of Apple were off about 1%.
Tomorrow, we'll look at earnings from Boeing (NYSE:BA) before the opening bell and earnings from Facebook (FB) after the close.
