The Wall Street Journal is reporting that General Electric (NYSE:GE) plans to spin off its US consumer lending business as early as next year in an IPO. The consumer lending unit accounts for nearly 20% of GE Capital's total outstanding loans with more than 55 million people having store credit cards backed by General Electric's finance division. On the news, shares of GE were looking to climb higher on Friday.
