While most Asian markets were higher in the overnight session, Japan's weaker-than-expected GDP report kept the Nikkei in the red and has carried forward into US trading today. With no major catalyst to move the markets higher today, US markets opened lower on Monday morning.
Good morning this is Sayoko Murase with the Week Ahead Market Report for August 12, 2013.
In overseas trading, Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average was lower by 0.7% overnight while the Hang Seng gained more tha 2.1%. The FTSE 100 was modestly lower by 0.3% this morning and the German DAX was off about the same amount.
On the earnings front, SeaWorld Entertainment (NYSE:SEAS) reports on Tuesday, Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) and Deere (NYSE:DE) report on Wednesday, and Kohl's (NYSE:KSS) reports on Thursday.
On the economic front, business inventory data is released on Tuesday, CPI data is released on Thursday and the housing starts report is released on Friday.
