This morning, Sears Holdings (NASDAQ:SHLD) announced that it would spin off Lands' End from the rest of the company in an effort to unlock value for shareholders. The company said in October that it was considering separating both Lands' End and Sears Auto Center, but today's announcement was limited to just the clothing retailer. Some analysts have raised the question of whether the move to spin off Lands' End was the result of the company being unable to find a buyer for the brand, which brings in to question the value of the other well-known brands owned by Sears Holdings. On the news, shares of Sears were higher by 2.2%.
