The US markets were relatively flat this morning as many expect volumes to be muted over the last two days of the year. In notable news this morning, Cooper Tires (CTB) has official terminated its buyout agreement with Apollo Tyres and Blackstone (NYSE:BX) has purchased a $200 million stake in footwear maker Crocs (NASDAQ:CROX).

In overseas trading, Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average gained 0.7% and the Hang Seng was flat overnight. In Europe on Monday, the FTSE 100 was lower by 0.4% so far and the German DAX is lower by the same amount today.
In economic news, initial jobless claims are released on Thursday while crude inventories and auto sales are released on Friday.
In earnings news this week, National American University Holdings (NAUH) reports on Wednesday, Resources Connection (RECN) reports on Thursday and Lindsay Corp (NYSE:LNN) reports on Friday.
