The iShares Nasdaq Biotechnology ETF (NASDAQ:IBB) is seeing unusually high volume in afternoon trading Friday, with over 3.1 million shares traded versus three month average volume of about 1.2 million. Shares of IBB were down about 1.4% on the day.
Components of that ETF with the highest volume on Friday were Gilead Sciences (NASDAQ:GILD), trading down about 1.4% with over 14.7 million shares changing hands so far this session, and Ariad Pharmaceuticals (ARIA), down about 2.4% on volume of over 9.7 million shares. Agios Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:AGIO) is the component faring the best Friday, higher by about 12.5% on the day, while Newlink Genetics (NASDAQ:NLNK) is lagging other components of the iShares Nasdaq Biotechnology ETF, trading lower by about 12.4%.
