Looking at the sectors faring worst as of midday Wednesday, shares of Energy companies are underperforming other sectors, showing a 2.3% loss. Within that group, Hess Corp (NYSE:HES) and Pioneer Natural Resources Co (NYSE:PXD) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 4.6% and 4.1%, respectively. Among energy ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE:XLE), which is down 2.5% on the day, and up 5.80% year-to-date. Hess Corp, meanwhile, is up 40.87% year-to-date, and Pioneer Natural Resources Co is up 5.45% year-to-date. Combined, HES and PXD make up approximately 3.5% of the underlying holdings of XLE.

The next worst performing sector is the Materials sector, showing a 1.5% loss. Among large Materials stocks, LyondellBasell Industries NV (NYSE:LYB) and Mosaic Co (NYSE:MOS) are the most notable, showing a loss of 4.2% and 3.7%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Materials stocks is the Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLB), which is down 1.9% in midday trading, and down 2.83% on a year-to-date basis. LyondellBasell Industries NV, meanwhile, is down 2.47% year-to-date, and Mosaic Co is up 8.79% year-to-date. Combined, LYB and MOS make up approximately 7.3% of the underlying holdings of XLB.
