Monday Sector Laggards: Technology & Communications, Healthcare

Looking at the sectors faring worst as of midday Monday, shares of Technology & Communications companies are underperforming other sectors, showing a 0.7% loss. Within the sector, Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) and Ansys Inc. (NASDAQ:ANSS) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 3.7% and 2.3%, respectively. Among technology ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE:XLK), which is down 0.7% on the day, and up 17.16% year-to-date. Twitter Inc, meanwhile, is up 20.85% year-to-date, and Ansys Inc. is up 25.43% year-to-date. Combined, TWTR and ANSS make up approximately 0.5% of the underlying holdings of XLK.

The next worst performing sector is the Healthcare sector, showing a 0.5% loss. Among large Healthcare stocks, ABIOMED, Inc. (NASDAQ:ABMD) and Centene Corp (NYSE:CNC) are the most notable, showing a loss of 5.5% and 2.1%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Healthcare stocks is the Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV), which is down 0.3% in midday trading, and up 13.54% on a year-to-date basis. ABIOMED, Inc., meanwhile, is up 99.40% year-to-date, and Centene Corp is up 41.00% year-to-date. Combined, ABMD and CNC make up approximately 1.2% of the underlying holdings of XLV.
