The worst performing sector as of midday Thursday is the Energy sector, showing a 1.6% loss. Within that group, Concho Resources Inc (NYSE:CXO) and ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 4.3% and 3.9%, respectively. Among energy ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE:XLE), which is down 1.5% on the day, and down 2.32% year-to-date. Concho Resources Inc, meanwhile, is down 8.92% year-to-date, and ConocoPhillips is up 24.67% year-to-date. Combined, CXO and COP make up approximately 7.6% of the underlying holdings of XLE.

The next worst performing sector is the Utilities sector, showing a 0.4% loss. Among large Utilities stocks, NRG Energy Inc (NYSE:NRG) and American Water Works Co, Inc. (NYSE:AWK) are the most notable, showing a loss of 4.0% and 1.6%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Utilities stocks is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLU), which is down 0.3% in midday trading, and up 6.31% on a year-to-date basis. NRG Energy Inc, meanwhile, is up 29.80% year-to-date, and American Water Works Co, Inc., is down 1.61% year-to-date. Combined, NRG and AWK make up approximately 3.2% of the underlying holdings of XLU.
