Thursday Sector Leaders: Healthcare, Utilities

In afternoon trading on Thursday, Healthcare stocks are the best performing sector, up 0.5%. Within the sector, Danaher Corp (NYSE:DHR) and Intuitive Surgical Inc (NASDAQ:ISRG) are two large stocks leading the way, showing a gain of 3.6% and 3.0%, respectively. Among healthcare ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE:XLV), which is up 0.6% on the day, and up 15.15% year-to-date. Danaher Corp, meanwhile, is up 30.65% year-to-date, and Intuitive Surgical Inc is up 18.92% year-to-date. Combined, DHR and ISRG make up approximately 6.0% of the underlying holdings of XLV.
The next best performing sector is the Utilities sector, higher by 0.2%. Among large Utilities stocks, FirstEnergy Corp (NYSE:FE) and Eversource Energy (NYSE:ES) are the most notable, showing a gain of 4.5% and 0.9%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Utilities stocks is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLU), which is up 0.2% in midday trading, and up 5.03% on a year-to-date basis. FirstEnergy Corp, meanwhile, is up 30.68% year-to-date, and Eversource Energy, is down 0.91% year-to-date. Combined, FE and ES make up approximately 5.5% of the underlying holdings of XLU.
