The worst performing sector as of midday Thursday is the Healthcare sector, up 1.3%. Within the sector, Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) and PerkinElmer, Inc. (PKI) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 3.9% and 3.0%, respectively. Among healthcare ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE:XLV), which is up 0.6% on the day, and up 15.98% year-to-date. Moderna Inc, meanwhile, is up 185.60% year-to-date, and PerkinElmer, Inc. is up 25.39% year-to-date. Combined, MRNA and PKI make up approximately 1.3% of the underlying holdings of XLV.
The next worst performing sector is the Technology & Communications sector, higher by 1.6%. Among large Technology & Communications stocks, Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:ETSY) and Applied Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMAT) are the most notable, showing a loss of 3.5% and 3.5%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Technology & Communications stocks is the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK), which is up 0.9% in midday trading, and up 29.76% on a year-to-date basis. Etsy Inc, meanwhile, is up 40.59% year-to-date, and Applied Materials, Inc. is up 70.66% year-to-date. AMAT makes up approximately 0.9% of the underlying holdings of XLK.
