Tuesday Sector Laggards: Utilities, Energy

The worst performing sector as of midday Tuesday is the Utilities sector, showing a 0.9% loss. Within that group, Constellation Energy Corp (NASDAQ:CEG) and Vistra Corp (NYSE:VST) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 3.4% and 3.0%, respectively. Among utilities ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE:XLU), which is down 1.3% on the day, and up 21.63% year-to-date. Constellation Energy Corp, meanwhile, is up 60.23% year-to-date, and Vistra Corp is up 37.15% year-to-date. Combined, CEG and VST make up approximately 12.3% of the underlying holdings of XLU.
The next worst performing sector is the Energy sector, higher by 0.3%. Among large Energy stocks, Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX) and Marathon Petroleum Corp. (NYSE:MPC) are the most notable, showing a loss of 1.2% and 1.2%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Energy stocks is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE), which is down 0.1% in midday trading, and up 3.90% on a year-to-date basis. Phillips 66, meanwhile, is up 16.19% year-to-date, and Marathon Petroleum Corp. is up 33.82% year-to-date. Combined, PSX and MPC make up approximately 7.9% of the underlying holdings of XLE.
