Tuesday Sector Leaders: Energy, Utilities

In afternoon trading on Tuesday, Energy stocks are the best performing sector, up 0.7%. Within the sector, Targa Resources Corp (NYSE:TRGP) and Exxon Mobil Corp (NYSE:XOM) are two large stocks leading the way, showing a gain of 3.5% and 2.4%, respectively. Among energy ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE:XLE), which is up 0.9% on the day, and up 9.51% year-to-date. Targa Resources Corp, meanwhile, is up 5.96% year-to-date, and Exxon Mobil Corp is up 14.10% year-to-date. Combined, TRGP and XOM make up approximately 52.8% of the underlying holdings of XLE.
The next best performing sector is the Utilities sector, higher by 0.6%. Among large Utilities stocks, NRG Energy Inc (NYSE:NRG) and Public Service Enterprise Group Inc (NYSE:PEG) are the most notable, showing a gain of 3.5% and 2.1%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Utilities stocks is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLU), which is up 0.5% in midday trading, and up 15.60% on a year-to-date basis. NRG Energy Inc, meanwhile, is up 90.26% year-to-date, and Public Service Enterprise Group Inc, is down 2.61% year-to-date. Combined, NRG and PEG make up approximately 10.9% of the underlying holdings of XLU.
