Top Abnormal Volume Stocks for Tuesday: CAG, IRDM, OC, KLAC, and CMCSA

By Market News Video Staff, Tuesday, June 30, 2026, 10:12 AM ET

Abnormal volume can be an early signal that a stock is attracting fresh attention, whether because of earnings, guidance, corporate developments, index activity, or broader sector rotation. Heading into Tuesday's session, the Russell 1000 names showing the largest volume spikes from the prior day were Conagra Brands Inc (CAG), Iridium Communications Inc (IRDM), Owens Corning (OC), KLA Corp (KLAC), and Comcast Corp (CMCSA).

Among the group, Conagra Brands posted the largest surge, trading 158.86 million shares, or 10.4x its normal volume of 15.22 million shares. Iridium Communications ranked second with 13.01 million shares traded, equal to 5.0x its normal volume of 2.62 million shares.

How the Abnormal Volume Screen Works

This list is derived from Russell 1000 components by comparing each stock's prior-session trading volume with its average daily volume over the trailing three months. The result highlights stocks trading well above their typical pace, a useful screen for identifying names that may remain active in the next session.

Abnormal volume does not, by itself, indicate a bullish or bearish setup. What it does indicate is elevated participation. That often matters because unusually high turnover can coincide with repricing, shifting institutional positioning, or a break from a stock's recent trading range.

Top Abnormal Volume Stocks to Watch

After Conagra and Iridium, Owens Corning ranked third, with 5.40 million shares traded versus a normal 1.14 million, or 4.7x typical volume. KLA Corp ranked fourth at 14.61 million shares, or 4.2x its normal volume of 3.47 million. Comcast also came in at 4.2x normal volume, with 135.40 million shares changing hands compared with its usual 31.99 million.

In short, the leading abnormal volume names from the prior session were:

  • Conagra Brands Inc (CAG): 10.4x normal volume
  • Iridium Communications Inc (IRDM): 5.0x normal volume
  • Owens Corning (OC): 4.7x normal volume
  • KLA Corp (KLAC): 4.2x normal volume
  • Comcast Corp (CMCSA): 4.2x normal volume

Why Abnormal Trading Volume Matters

When volume rises sharply above normal levels, it can affect both price discovery and trading conditions. Higher participation often improves liquidity, but it can also signal that new information is being incorporated quickly into the stock price.

Key reasons traders and investors track abnormal volume include:

  • Confirmation of price moves: A breakout or breakdown is often viewed as more significant when accompanied by heavy volume.
  • Event detection: Earnings releases, analyst actions, mergers, regulatory developments, and management commentary often show up first in volume.
  • Institutional activity: Large funds typically leave a footprint in trading volume when building or reducing positions.
  • Short-term follow-through potential: Stocks with sharp volume spikes frequently remain active into the next session.

Relative Performance Context

Volume screens are most useful when paired with price action. A stock trading at several times normal volume after a large move may be in the middle of a trend extension, a reversal, or a one-day event-driven repricing. Reviewing relative performance over the past year can help distinguish between long-term leaders, laggards, and stocks reacting to a more recent catalyst.

What to Watch in Tuesday's Session

The next step is to determine whether Monday's abnormal volume leads to follow-through. The most useful signals typically include:

  • Continuation of above-average volume after the open
  • Price holding above or below a newly established range
  • Gaps that attract additional participation rather than immediate reversal
  • Sector peers showing similar volume and price behavior

For Tuesday, Conagra, Iridium, Owens Corning, KLA, and Comcast stand out as the clearest high-volume names to monitor, with the broader top-10 list offering additional candidates for event-driven or momentum-focused follow-up.
