Quadruple Witching Definition Thursday, October 18, 10:59 AM ET
Quadruple Witching refers to the the expiration of single stock futures, stock index futures, stock index options, and stock options all on the same day. It occurs four times per year during the third Friday of March, June, September, and December. The date is signficant as investors tend to unwind contract position on or before quadruple witching days, leading to increased volume and volatility.
