The SPDR Portfolio Mid Cap ETF (NYSE:SPMD) is seeing unusually high volume in afternoon trading Tuesday, with over 1.7 million shares traded versus three month average volume of about 97,000. Shares of SPMD were off about 0.2% on the day.
Components of that ETF with the highest volume on Tuesday were Southwestern Energy (NYSE:SWN), trading off about 3.1% with over 11.2 million shares changing hands so far this session, and General Cable (BGC), up about 1.1% on volume of over 9.8 million shares. Barnes & Noble Education (NYSE:BNED) is the component faring the best Tuesday, higher by about 19.1% on the day, while Ascena Retail Group (NASDAQ:ASNA) is lagging other components of the SPDR Portfolio Mid Cap ETF, trading lower by about 23.4%.
