Bargain hunters are wise to pay careful attention to insider buying, because although there are many various reasons for an insider to sell a stock, presumably the only reason they would use their hard-earned cash to make a purchase, is that they expect to make money. Today we look at two noteworthy recent insider buys.
On Friday, Equity Lifestyle Properties (NYSE:ELS)'s Chairman of the Board, Samuel Zell, made a $1.79M buy of ELS, purchasing 20,000 shares at a cost of $89.56 a piece. Equity Lifestyle Properties is trading down about 0.5% on the day Wednesday. Before this latest buy, Zell made one other buy in the past year, purchasing $70.41M shares at a cost of $87.43 each.
And also on Friday, EVP Frank Romano bought $270,827 worth of Meridian Bancorp (EBSB), buying 14,365 shares at a cost of $18.85 a piece. Before this latest buy, Romano made one other buy in the past year, purchasing $66,972 shares at a cost of $17.69 each. Meridian Bancorp is trading down about 0.8% on the day Wednesday.
