In early trading on Monday, shares of Verizon Communications topped the list of the day's best performing Dow Jones Industrial Average components, trading up 0.6%. Year to date, Verizon Communications registers a 1.9% gain.

And the worst performing Dow component thus far on the day is Apple, trading down 4.9%. Apple is showing a gain of 18.9% looking at the year to date performance.

Two other components making moves today are Caterpillar, trading down 4.3%, and Procter & Gamble, trading down 0.5% on the day.
