Looking at options trading activity among components of the Russell 3000 index, there is noteworthy activity today in Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), where a total volume of 102,871 contracts has been traded thus far today, a contract volume which is representative of approximately 10.3 million underlying shares (given that every 1 contract represents 100 underlying shares). That number works out to 148.6% of WBA's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 6.9 million shares. Particularly high volume was seen for the $48.50 strike call option expiring July 23, 2021, with 26,467 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 2.6 million underlying shares of WBA. Facebook Inc (FB) options are showing a volume of 209,959 contracts thus far today. That number of contracts represents approximately 21.0 million underlying shares, working out to a sizeable 133.7% of FB's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 15.7 million shares.
Particularly high volume was seen for the $355 strike call option expiring July 16, 2021, with 24,701 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 2.5 million underlying shares of FB. And Cytokinetics Inc (NASDAQ:CYTK) saw options trading volume of 9,619 contracts, representing approximately 961,900 underlying shares or approximately 130.7% of CYTK's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 736,085 shares.
Especially high volume was seen for the $20 strike call option expiring August 20, 2021, with 3,009 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 300,900 underlying shares of CYTK.
