Looking at options trading activity among components of the S&P 500 index, there is noteworthy activity today in Costco Wholesale Corp (NASDAQ:COST), where a total volume of 9,207 contracts has been traded thus far today, a contract volume which is representative of approximately 920,700 underlying shares (given that every 1 contract represents 100 underlying shares). That number works out to 57% of COST's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 1.6 million shares. Especially high volume was seen for the $475 strike call option expiring September 24, 2021, with 452 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 45,200 underlying shares of COST. Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:AVGO) saw options trading volume of 9,353 contracts, representing approximately 935,300 underlying shares or approximately 54.1% of AVGO's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 1.7 million shares.
Particularly high volume was seen for the $330 strike put option expiring June 17, 2022, with 526 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 52,600 underlying shares of AVGO. And Mastercard Inc (NYSE:MA) options are showing a volume of 21,936 contracts thus far today. That number of contracts represents approximately 2.2 million underlying shares, working out to a sizeable 51.9% of MA's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 4.2 million shares.
Particularly high volume was seen for the $395 strike call option expiring October 15, 2021, with 3,193 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 319,300 underlying shares of MA.
