Notable Thursday Option Activity: TSLA, BA, DRI

Looking at options trading activity among components of the S&P 500 index, there is noteworthy activity today in Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), where a total volume of 555,241 contracts has been traded thus far today, a contract volume which is representative of approximately 55.5 million underlying shares (given that every 1 contract represents 100 underlying shares). That number works out to 284.3% of TSLA's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 19.5 million shares. Especially high volume was seen for the $800 strike call option expiring October 08, 2021, with 53,269 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 5.3 million underlying shares of TSLA. Boeing Co. (NYSE:BA) options are showing a volume of 161,163 contracts thus far today. That number of contracts represents approximately 16.1 million underlying shares, working out to a sizeable 180.6% of BA's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 8.9 million shares.
Particularly high volume was seen for the $230 strike call option expiring October 08, 2021, with 29,381 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 2.9 million underlying shares of BA. And Darden Restaurants, Inc. (NYSE:DRI) saw options trading volume of 21,761 contracts, representing approximately 2.2 million underlying shares or approximately 168% of DRI's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 1.3 million shares.
Especially high volume was seen for the $60 strike call option expiring January 21, 2022, with 9,010 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 901,000 underlying shares of DRI.
