Notable Wednesday Option Activity: VMW, RS, AVNT

Looking at options trading activity among components of the Russell 3000 index, there is noteworthy activity today in VMware Inc (NYSE:VMW), where a total volume of 7,200 contracts has been traded thus far today, a contract volume which is representative of approximately 720,000 underlying shares (given that every 1 contract represents 100 underlying shares). That number works out to 60.7% of VMW's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 1.2 million shares. Particularly high volume was seen for the $150 strike put option expiring November 12, 2021, with 1,000 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 100,000 underlying shares of VMW. Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. (NYSE:RS) saw options trading volume of 1,672 contracts, representing approximately 167,200 underlying shares or approximately 56.9% of RS's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 293,960 shares.
Particularly high volume was seen for the $140 strike put option expiring November 19, 2021, with 1,096 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 109,600 underlying shares of RS. And Avient Corp (NYSE:AVNT) saw options trading volume of 1,720 contracts, representing approximately 172,000 underlying shares or approximately 56.7% of AVNT's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 303,520 shares.
Particularly high volume was seen for the $45 strike put option expiring November 19, 2021, with 850 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 85,000 underlying shares of AVNT.
