Disney (NYSE:DIS) announced this morning it is acquiring Marvel Entertainment (MVL) for $4 billion in cash and stock. The deal values Marvel stock at around $50 per share.
Marvel shareholders will receive $30 in cash and .745 Disney shares for each Marvel share they own. Disney and Marvel's board have both approved the deal, but shareholders and antitrust regulators still have to give their approval.
Disney will acquire Marvel's portfolio of 5,000 characters, including the very successful franchises of Spider Man, Iron Man and X-Men.
Marvel shares trading up over twenty six and one half percent Monday morning, while Disney shares trading down over one percent.
