This morning, Mosaic (NYSE:MOS) announced it would be pay shareholders a special cash dividend of $1.30 per share in a move that returns $580 million to shareholders. The dividend would not require any financing and would be paid from the company's cash position, which stood at $2.6 billion at the end of August.
In afternoon trading, shares of Mosaic had dipped lower, off more than two and a half percent despite the dividend announcement.
In other dividend news, Arch Coal (NYSE:ACI) maintained its quarterly dividend of 9 cents per share. Jabil Circuit (NYSE:JBL) maintained its quarterly dividend of 7 cents per share. And XL Capital (NYSE:XL) maintained its quarterly dividend of 10 cents per share.
Among dividend increases, Torchmark Corporation (NYSE:TMK) announced its quarterly dividend of 15 cents per share, an increase of about 7% over its prior dividend in September of 14 cents.
