This morning, Mosaic (NYSE:MOS) announced it would be pay shareholders a special cash dividend of $1.30 per share in a move that returns $580 million to shareholders. The dividend would not require any financing and would be paid from the company's cash position, which stood at $2.6 billion at the end of August.
In afternoon trading, shares of Mosaic had dipped lower, off more than two and a half percent despite the dividend announcement.
In other dividend news, Arch Coal (NYSE:ACI) maintained its quarterly dividend of 9 cents per share. Jabil Circuit (NYSE:JBL) maintained its quarterly dividend of 7 cents per share. And XL Capital (XL) maintained its quarterly dividend of 10 cents per share.
Among dividend increases, Torchmark Corporation (TMK) announced its quarterly dividend of 15 cents per share, an increase of about 7% over its prior dividend in September of 14 cents.
