Investors this week will be closely monitoring the news out of Japan, political events in Libya and the direction of oil prices.
Good morning, I’m Kristin Bianco, with the “Week Ahead Market Report” for March 14, 2011.
In overseas trading, Japan’s Nikkei 225 Stock Average was lower by nearly 6.2 percent, and the Hang Seng Index was higher by 0.41 percent. The FTSE 100 was lower by over half a percent, while the German DAX decreased by 1.5 percent. In the US, the Dow is lower by nearly half a percent, the Nasdaq is lower by about half a percent, and the S&P is lower by almost seven tenths of a percent in early trading.
Key data due to be released this week includes import and export prices on Tuesday, housing starts, building permits, and PPI on Wednesday, along with initial claims and CPI on Thursday.
On the earnings front, expect to hear from Alexza Pharmaceuticals (ALXA) on Tuesday, General Maritime (GMR) on Wednesday, Hilltop Holdings (NYSE:HTH) and Nike (NYSE:NKE) on Thursday, and Harris & Harris Group (NYSE:TINY) on Friday.
