Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) said today it will expand its streaming movie services into the United Kingdom and Ireland in early 2012.
The service will offer unlimited TV shows and movies over the Internet for a monthly subscription device.
Just as in the U.S., Canada and Latin America, where Netflix already operates, consumers in the U.K. and Ireland will be able to watch content on TVs, computer and mobile devices with the help of Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox 360, Nintendo's Wii and Sony's (SNE) PS3, on Blu-ray disc players, on internet-connected TVs, as well as on Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone and iPad, on Apple TV and on Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) TV.
Pricing for the service in the U.K. and Ireland will be announced closer to the launch.
In its report on the move, the Financial Times noted the service will put Netflix in competition with Tesco (TESO), Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) and Google's YouTube in the region.
Netflix made the announcement ahead of its quarterly earnings report, due out after the close of trading today.
