As the saying goes, there are many possible reasons for an insider to sell a stock, but only one reason to buy -- they expect to make money. So let's look at two noteworthy recent insider buys.
On Friday, UnitedHealth Group Inc (NYSE:UNH)'s Director, Rodger A. Lawson, made a $108,840 buy of UNH, purchasing 2,000 shares at a cost of $54.42 a piece. Lawson was up about 3.4% on the buy at the high point of today's trading session, with UNH trading as high as $56.25 in trading on Wednesday. UnitedHealth Group Inc is trading off about 0.6% on the day Wednesday.
And on Thursday, Chairman of the Board Paul Fulton purchased $26,178 worth of Bassett Furniture Industries, Inc (NASDAQ:BSET), purchasing 2,000 shares at a cost of $13.09 each. Before this latest buy, Fulton bought BSET on 4 other occasions during the past twelve months, for a total investment of $107,994 at an average of $9.82 per share. Bassett Furniture Industries, Inc is trading up about 2.2% on the day Wednesday. So far Fulton is in the green, up about 7.7% on their purchase based on today's trading high of $14.10.
