Friday Sector Laggards: Energy, Financial

In afternoon trading on Friday, Energy stocks are the worst performing sector, showing a 0.5% loss. Within that group, Marathon Oil Corp. (NYSE:MRO) and Halliburton Company (NYSE:HAL) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 2.0% and 1.9%, respectively. Among energy ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE:XLE), which is down 0.4% on the day, and up 30.79% year-to-date. Marathon Oil Corp., meanwhile, is up 72.88% year-to-date, and Halliburton Company is up 7.20% year-to-date. Combined, MRO and HAL make up approximately 3.3% of the underlying holdings of XLE.
The next worst performing sector is the Financial sector, higher by 0.4%. Among large Financial stocks, Invesco Ltd (NYSE:IVZ) and Berkley Corp (NYSE:WRB) are the most notable, showing a loss of 1.3% and 1.1%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Financial stocks is the Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF), which is up 0.1% in midday trading, and up 23.90% on a year-to-date basis. Invesco Ltd, meanwhile, is up 44.21% year-to-date, and Berkley Corp is up 13.11% year-to-date. Combined, IVZ and WRB make up approximately 0.5% of the underlying holdings of XLF.
