Monday Sector Laggards: Utilities, Healthcare

In afternoon trading on Monday, Utilities stocks are the worst performing sector, showing a 1.2% loss. Within the sector, NextEra Energy Inc (NYSE:NEE) and Ameren Corp (NYSE:AEE) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 2.4% and 2.0%, respectively. Among utilities ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE:XLU), which is down 1.4% on the day, and up 11.46% year-to-date. NextEra Energy Inc, meanwhile, is up 10.10% year-to-date, and Ameren Corp is up 13.91% year-to-date. Combined, NEE and AEE make up approximately 19.5% of the underlying holdings of XLU.
The next worst performing sector is the Healthcare sector, higher by 0.4%. Among large Healthcare stocks, DexCom Inc (NASDAQ:DXCM) and Idexx Laboratories, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDXX) are the most notable, showing a loss of 1.6% and 1.5%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Healthcare stocks is the Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV), which is up 0.2% in midday trading, and up 21.04% on a year-to-date basis. DexCom Inc, meanwhile, is up 38.16% year-to-date, and Idexx Laboratories, Inc. is up 34.45% year-to-date. Combined, DXCM and IDXX make up approximately 2.1% of the underlying holdings of XLV.
