The best performing sector as of midday Tuesday is the Materials sector, up 2.0%. Within the sector, Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold (NYSE:FCX) and Steel Dynamics Inc. (NASDAQ:STLD) are two large stocks leading the way, showing a gain of 5.4% and 5.3%, respectively. Among the high volume ETFs, one ETF closely following materials stocks is the Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE:XLB), which is up 2.2% on the day, and up 4.98% year-to-date. Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold, meanwhile, is up 5.89% year-to-date, and Steel Dynamics Inc. is up 12.24% year-to-date. Combined, FCX and STLD make up approximately 8.4% of the underlying holdings of XLB.
The next best performing sector is the Energy sector, higher by 1.8%. Among large Energy stocks, Halliburton Company (NYSE:HAL) and APA Corp (NASDAQ:APA) are the most notable, showing a gain of 4.5% and 3.1%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Energy stocks is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE), which is up 1.4% in midday trading, and down 2.30% on a year-to-date basis. Halliburton Company, meanwhile, is down 11.09% year-to-date, and APA Corp, is down 20.75% year-to-date. Combined, HAL and APA make up approximately 3.2% of the underlying holdings of XLE.
