In afternoon trading on Friday, Technology & Communications stocks are the worst performing sector, showing a 1.0% loss. Within that group, Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:AVGO) and NVIDIA Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA) are two of the day's laggards, showing a loss of 6.3% and 5.3%, respectively. Among technology ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE:XLK), which is down 1.3% on the day, and up 7.90% year-to-date. Broadcom Inc, meanwhile, is up 18.08% year-to-date, and NVIDIA Corp is up 77.14% year-to-date. Combined, AVGO and NVDA make up approximately 13.7% of the underlying holdings of XLK.
The next worst performing sector is the Materials sector, showing a 0.5% loss. Among large Materials stocks, Albemarle Corp. (NYSE:ALB) and Howmet Aerospace Inc (NYSE:HWM) are the most notable, showing a loss of 3.6% and 2.7%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Materials stocks is the Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLB), which is down 0.4% in midday trading, and up 4.64% on a year-to-date basis. Albemarle Corp., meanwhile, is down 18.13% year-to-date, and Howmet Aerospace Inc is up 24.78% year-to-date. ALB makes up approximately 1.4% of the underlying holdings of XLB.
