As the saying goes, there are many possible reasons for an insider to sell a stock, but only one reason to buy — they expect to make money. So let's look at two noteworthy recent insider buys.
On Thursday, Whirlpool Corp (NYSE:WHR)'s Director, Diane M. Dietz, made a $198,817 buy of WHR, purchasing 1,600 shares at a cost of $124.26 each. So far Dietz is in the green, up about 4.2% on their purchase based on today's trading high of $129.44. Whirlpool Corp is trading up about 0.7% on the day Monday. This buy marks the first one filed by Dietz in the past year.
And at Roper Technologies (NASDAQ:ROP), there was insider buying on Friday, by Director Richard F. Wallman who purchased 500 shares at a cost of $299.50 each, for a trade totaling $149,750. Before this latest buy, Wallman purchased ROP at 2 other times during the past year, for a total investment of $280,295 at an average of $280.30 per share. Roper Technologies is trading down about 0.3% on the day Monday.
